WELCOME!

How good it is to be here today, to worship the Lord and encourage one another! If you are a visitor, you are very welcome here. Please let us get acquainted with you, and please come back whenever you can. Last Sunday we welcomed a number of visitors, including Gloria Rogers, Blanchard, Oklahoma, visiting Kevin; Eric Hanson and family and friends, Durango, here on vacation; Jim Barbarick, Littleton, a longtime friend of Robert Lee; and Terry Wallace and Brenda Grogan, Springfield, and Michelle Blanck, Colbran, here for the ladies’ retreat.

Pat Watermon asked last Sunday evening for prayers that she be closer to God.

Pat’s friend, Deborah Gibbons, requested prayer for her self and for her son, Jeremiah, who is dealing with a stressful court case.

Please pray also for:
Wendy Robertson, Wayne Lapp, Emma Muñoz, Rudy McFadden, James Payne, Rona Moore, Anna and Clinton Chavez, Shirley McKibben, Ruby Helmers, Bill Shaw, Marc Saunders and Ernest English in their various struggles.
Korryne Coleman, Chris Eldeen, Cris Davenport Jr., Marcel DuBenion, Paul Germany and others in the armed forces, and their families.

WORKDAY SATURDAY

It’s the last scheduled workday of 2010. Donuts, coffee and orange juice will be provided. Since we need to prepare the building for the winter months, there will be some extra work; so a good turnout will really be appreciated.

MEN’S SATURDAY STUDY

The next study is planned for September 18, at the church building. Antwan Bell will be continuing our look into the subject, “Jesus Is Lord.”

PHOTO BOARD UPDATE

We hope to be updating the pictures soon. Jana Lee is coordinating the project. (Even if some of us hate to replace those more youthful pictures. . .).

RIKKY JONES’ ADDRESS

Rikky has been transferred to a facility at Buena Vista. He could use encouragement in view of the unexpected length of the sentence he received. His address

THE NEED FOR CONSTANCY

Sometimes we sing,, “Be constant in God’s service here; don’t let your light burn low.” That’s an eminently scriptural exhortation, much like Paul’s admonition in 1 Corinthians 15:58 to “be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.” If we realize that we are “on” awhile then “off” awhile in our Christian service, it is time to take a look at our lives, pare down our commitments and ask the Lord for help in keeping on the right track as His consistent, reliable servants.

SERMONS TODAY

Robert Lee’s sermon this morning is entitled, “The Power of Good Works,” based on the loving action toward Jesus mentioned in Matthew 26:6-13 . Tonight he will discus “Casting Crowns,” from Revelation 4:9-11 , crediting God for victories in our lives.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT

This week we will look at the last half of Lesson 7 in the life of Paul, since we covered only the first page last week. These questions cover Acts 16:14-40 , which describes Paul and Silas’s experiences in Philippi. More sheets are on the table.

Sunday, August 29

WELCOME!

Surely we all know that the Lord has been wonderful to us. Not the least of his blessings is the opportunity to gather with others who love Him, on the Lord’s Day. If you are a visitor today, you are very welcome here. Please come back whenever you can.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Kristi Wang requested prayer last Sunday for the families and friends of Bob Mays and Bertha Lufton, two of Kristi’s coworkers, who both passed away recently with pancreatic cancer.

Susie Thurston asked for prayers on behalf of her friend, Bob Erling, who faces financial difficulties.

Please pray also for:

Wendy Robertson, Wayne Lapp, Emma Muñoz, Rudy McFadden, James Payne, Rona Moore, Anna and Clinton Chavez, Shirley McKibben, Ruby Helmers, Bill Shaw, Marc Saunders and Ernest English in their various struggles.

Korryne Coleman, Chris Eldeen, Cris Davenport Jr., Marcel DuBenion, Paul Germany and others in the armed forces, and their families.

DEATH OF CHUCK’S BROTHER

Gary Huffine died suddenly on Wednesday afternoon in Arlington, Texas. He was 51 years old. Chuck is there for the memorial service today. Let’s ask God’s blessings on the grieving family.

DEATH OF SHAWNA’S BROTHER

We also offer condolences to Shawna Marshall, a former member here, and her family at the sudden death Tuesday of her brother, Brad Brickman, of the Denver area. Brad, who was 38, had attended our services with his children several times.

TRAVELERS

Kay Barnes was in Grand Junction last weekend. She is glad to report that her daughter, Sheila, is doing much better. Kay’s son, Monty Howlett, has moved to Farmington, New Mexico.

Richard and Nancy Magnusson have gone to Texas for a wedding.

NEW GOSPEL TIDINGS

The September issue is on the table. It contains articles by several preachers who have gone to be with Christ, including Jerry Rogers, Kevin’s father. There is also a tribute to preacher Bill Lynch of California, who was a friend of Robert Lee’s family when Robert was growing up.

BAPTISTRY REPAIRS

Major work on our baptistry has been completed, including replacing the heater and installing a new drain, two changes which were sorely needed.

NEW ON THE WEBSITE

We have added “Wednesday Night Study Material,” including lesson sheets from our studies of Acts and Hebrews, for printing or downloading. Other lessons, including those on Paul, are to be published to the site.

ON THE BULLETIN BOARD

An informative letter from Mountain States Children’s Home.

A thank-you card from Dana Williams.

SERMONS TODAY

Robert Lee’s sermon this morning is entitled, “The Lamp of the Body,” based on Matthew 6:22-24 . We need the truth found in Jesus Christ to save us from spiritual blindness. Tonight’s subject: “Walking in the Light” (see 1 John 1:5-2:2 ).

WEDNESDAY NIGHT

The study this week covers the expansion of the church into Macedonia. We plan to look at verses from the end of Acts 15 and all of Acts 16 . It’s exciting to see how God led Paul and those with him to reach out to people who would be receptive to the truth.
