A Look at Three Baptisms

Matt. 3:1-12 – John came to pave the way for Jesus. John baptized for repentance and the forgiveness of sins.
Repentance is at the heart of getting people ready for Jesus. John said that Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Baptism with Water for Repentance – Acts 2:38
2 Corinthians 12:21- People needing to turn away from evil is one part of repentance
Acts 3:19 – Turning to God is another part of repentance
Acts 20:19-21 – Move toward God and faith in Jesus Acts 26:19

Baptism with the Holy Spirit
Acts 2:17 – God poured out his Holy Spirit on mankind through Jesus sacrifice. This fulfilled a promise of God.
Romans 8:9-11 – The Holy Spirit has no limitations. We are surrounded by The Spirit – we are immersed in the Spirit today.

Baptism with Fire
Luke 12:49 – Jesus came to baptize with fire. Jesus wants to separate the good fruit from the bad.
Hebrew 12:29 – God is a consuming fire.
1 Peter 1:7 – Suffering is a testing by fire in our lives. We are purified by fire in our lives. These fires can get rid of impurities in our lives.
Malachi 3:2-4 – Who can stand before God without his purifying help?
Isaiah 33:14-16 – Jesus is the only way we can stand before God.
