“Morning by morning, O Lord, you hear my voice”
An Earlier Heaven
(Please read Ephesians 5:28-33)
It was Sir John Bowring, a 19th Century songwriter and poet, who wrote, “A happy family is an earlier heaven.” Perhaps your earliest home was without some of the comforts that most of us take for granted these days. Maybe you were living below the so-called “poverty line.” But if, even so, you had a happy home, you were rich.
If you doubt that statement, take a look at your morning newspaper or read reliable statistics concerning the number of broken homes, one-parent homes, and homes where brutish “boyfriends” have injured or even killed helpless children.
Most of this trouble could be avoided by simply following God’s plan: that men and women marry and stay married and provide lovingly for their children. He decreed that “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife.” That plan would be more widely followed today if parents would carefully observe His direction to bring children up “in the training and instruction of the Lord.” If you’re a husband or wife or parent of young children, please be careful to follow God’s desires for your marriage and your home, and happiness will surely result.
