One Christmas the speaker and his brothers received tickets for Disneyland as a surprise gift from their parents. These tickets were unexpected, but at that point they began anticipating the visit to the amusement park. If you don’t expect something you can’t enjoy the anticipation. God has gifts for us and we need to read and study so we can know God’s promises.
Ezek.36:25-27. God promises he will help the people by sending one who can take away the sins of the world.
Matt 3:13-17. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. This is really the first time Jesus is set apart for His ministry. The Spirit Of God, the Holy Spirit, rests on and leads Jesus from this point forward.
John 1:19-34. John the Baptist contrasts his baptism, the baptism of water, and ministry with Jesus and His ministry and Jesus’ mission to take away the sins of the world. John let everyone know that he was paving the way for the One who can save your soul.
John 3:1-8. Jesus says that one must be born of water and the spirit in order to enter the kingdom. Jesus offers a chance to begin again with a new spirit. Jesus takes the baptism of water and gives it more meaning by saying that the act of baptism is a way to receive the spirit of God.
John 3:22-4:3. Jesus’ Disciples were baptizing and John was also baptizing. John says that he must decrease and that Jesus must increase. God was preparing mankind to receive his Spirit.
Acts 2:37-42. Peter says be saved and baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins and receive the Holy Spirit.
Acts 5:29-32. God gives the Spirit to those who obey Him.
Acts 8:14-19. These people received the Spirit by the apostles laying on their hands. This shows God directs the giving of The Holy Spirit.
Acts 9:15-17. The Lord directs giving The Holy Spirit.
Acts 10:44-48. The gift of The Holy Spirit was given by God. In all these examples the connection is there between water baptism and the gift of The Holy Spirit.
Acts 19:1-7. These people did not receive The Holy Spirit when they were baptized. They needed to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:4-6. There is a connection between the act of water baptism and The Gift Of The Holy Spirit.
