There is a program in the Denver area called Denver Mental Health that won a national award for helping those who are mentally ill.  Some of their suggestions about how to change are applicable to us as Christians.

  • Medicinal Intake

Phil. 4:8

One of the things they recommend is to balance the medicines.  With us as Christians we need to take in the things of God.  We need to take in what is good to be able to think about what is good.

Col. 3:1-2

Seek the things above.  Bring higher things into your mind so that you can think on what is right.

Attend the worship services and read the word.

  • Goals

Every individual in the mental heath program, sets individual goals so that they can move forward.

1Cor. 9:24

Phil.3: 13-14

To win a race you need to focus on the goal.  If we want to live for Christ we need to focus on what is good.

1 Tim. 6:11

The things that Christians are going after are the characteristics of Jesus.

  • Action

One of the things the mentally ill patients need help with is making good choices and taking the right actions.

Eph. 2:10

We need to follow the actions that Christ set out for us.

Titus 3:14

Christians are called to do good deeds to meet pressing needs.

We need to put our faith into actions.

James 2:20-24

  • Support

In the mental heath program, the patients are constantly supported.

1Thess. 5:11

Christians should be in constant communication to support and encourage one another.

Heb. 3:12-13

Help each other see the higher things.

We need encouragement from other Christians.   We can help each other.
