Luke 19:41-44

It is sometimes very difficult to show emotions.   Sometimes we think that tears are a sign of weakness.  The scriptures show that there are some circumstances that call for grief.

  • Jeremiah

Jeremiah 8:18-9:1 This situation is so grievous that the prophet wished he could shed buckets of tears.

Lamentations 2:11 The prophet said that all the suffering around him, made him cry so much he couldn’t see.

  • Jesus

Luke 19:41-44 Instead of a great triumph Jesus lamented over what was coming for the people.

  • Paul

Acts 20:17-19, 31 He served the people of Ephesus with tears.  He was deeply evolved with them and with the Word.

  • Love For God

John 4:34  The love for God was like food for Jesus.

Gal. 1:10 Paul served to please God.

  • Love of Truth

Jer. 14:13-18 Jeremiah had to give a message no one wanted to hear.

Phil. 3:17-19  Paul preached against people who were teaching falsehood and taking people away from Christ.

  • Love of Others

Jer. 13:17 The thought that the nation had been taken away was very difficult for Jeremiah.

John 11:35 Jesus wept for the sadness of those around him.

Rom. 9:1-3 Paul had great sorrow for those who don’t accept the truth of the messiah.

  • Humility

2 Cor. 12:19-21 Paul says that crying is humbling and he is wiling to accept this to preach the good news.

We need to have a deep love for God and the humility to serve others with love.

Matt. 5:4 We will be comforted by God.
