We are called on individually be responsible to work at applying the word to our lives.
- Jesus is the vine
In the parable of the sower (Luke 8:4-15), we are the soil. In this reading, we are the branches of the vine.
God’s Cleansing (vs. 1-3)
God is the vine and we are clean because of Jesus. Luke 5:17-26
Jesus forgave the sins of the lame man. His words made the paralyzed man whole. When Jesus forgives our sins, we can know that we are forgiven, we are whole. John 13:10, Acts 15:8-9 We need to have faith to believe that God is trustworthy. We have no reason to worry with guilt over past sins. We need to be free of that guilt to bear fruit.
2 Peter 1:4-8 God is working on us everyday to give us what we need to mature and to grow.
When things are not good in our lives, they need to be pruned away.
Fellowship With Deity (vs. 4-7)
Israel was the vineyard. The vineyard was not what it should be and God let the nation suffer the consequences. Because of Jesus, we are now spiritually connected individually to God. John 17:3,21 Are you connected with the Lord so that you can bear fruit? 1 Cor. 1:9, 1John 1:1-7
Apart from God we can do nothing.
Fruit Bearing & God’s Glory
What do we mean bearing fruit?
Converts – 1Cor. 16:15 We should not limit our thoughts about fruit bearing to converts alone.
Fruit of the Spirit Gal. 5:22-23
Romans 7:4-5 Our righteous characteristics
Phil. 1:9-11 The righteous deeds in our lives
Col. 1:3-12 Please God with good works. When we grow in his spirit we bring glory to God.
