Hebrews 1:4-2:18
Angels are Great
The world presents angels with a different view than the Bible.
Biblical views of angels are found in:
Genesis 3:24; Num. 22:31-33; Judges 13:6;
2 Sam. 24:15-17; 2 Chron. 32:20-21;Psalm 103:20; Ezek. 1:4-28; Rev. 10:1-3; 18:1-2;
20:1-3
Angels are seen as beings that are bringing messages, being destroyers, and carrying out God’s judgments. Angels are shown in the Bible as powerful and carrying out the authority and will of God.
Jesus Christ is greater than angels because he is:
- God’s Son
Heb. 1:4-5; Psalm 2:7; 2 Samuel 7:14.
Jesus has a greater name than all the angels.
- Worthy of worship
Heb. 1:6-8; Psalm 104:4; 45:6-7; Rev. 19:10. Jesus is different from any other being.
- Righteous
Heb. 1:9. Jesus is pure and free from sin.
- Eternal
Heb. 1:10-12; Psalm 102:25-27.
Jesus is forever because he is deity.
- Vindicated
Heb. 1:13-14; Psalm 110:1.
Jesus carries out God’s work. All Jesus’ enemies will be put into subjection.
- Made human, perfected in suffering
Heb. 2:1-13. Jesus gave up his heavenly glory and became a human to save us from our sins.
- Helper of people
Heb. 2:14-18. Christ has become our helper and our Savior.
2 Peter 2:4.
Summary:
1 Peter 3:21-22. Jesus is at the right hand of God and all are in subjection to him.
Phil. 2:9-11. At the name of Jesus every knee will bow.
