“Morning by morning, O Lord, you hear my voice”
Heaven Helps Us
(Please read Psalms 46:1-3 and 121:1-3)
Sometimes some of us seem to conclude that God is too far away and too busy running the universe to care much about us, that Jesus has already done all he will do, and so on. Such conclusions can lead us to depend on ourselves when we really need help from God.
Help is available if we will use it, for God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV). It is evident that Paul, the author of this passage, was fully aware of the power of God in human lives, surely the most powerful influence that we can know. Let’s consider it further.
For one thing, we have the assurance that heaven’s help is available in times of temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). All circumstances and causes that lead to temptation are under God’s control, so he can foil them if he wills to do so.
But if we sin, we have an Advocate, a High Priest, in Christ Jesus, who intercedes with the Father when we sin and ask forgiveness. And this mercy extends to our prayers for help in other times of need as well (see Hebrews 4:14-16).
Need help in your efforts to pray? Heaven helps with that, too. Isn’t it wonderful that we’re not left on our own in our efforts to serve the Lord? If you’re not familiar with God’s assurances and promises concerning the lives of his servants, we suggest developing a habit of regular Bible reading, starting today. The Bible is a treasure trove of good things for a good life.
