Serving God with Humility and Love

“Be Constant in God’s Service Here”

by Margaret Rossow

This line from an old hymn is an appropriate reminder for Christians. One of the ways we can demonstrate our love for God is to be a servant. Once we’ve decided to serve, we need to continue and be reliable. The idea of doing something constantly brings to mind words like unchanging, steady, even, and fixed. There are many opportunities to demonstrate these qualities by attending the services regularly, participating in workdays, supporting collections for good works, and praying regularly for one another.

There are at least three main areas of our lives that will benefit from serving God consistently:

Our steadfast service will benefit the church by:
» Encouraging others through fellowship
» Praying with others for mutual needs
» Sharing ideas for helping people in need
» Participating in the physical upkeep of the building
(See 1 Corinthians 15:58.)

Our steadfast service will benefit our families by:
» Teaching our children how to love
» Giving our family a foundation to grow on
» Demonstrating commitment
» Training our children to be morally upright
(See Deuteronomy 6:7.)

Our steadfast service will benefit ourselves by:
» Building our character by shaping us into the persons God wants us to be
» Helping us feel good about doing our part
» Blessing others with our service
» Making us active parts of the body of Christ
(See James 1:22-25.)
