“Morning by morning, O Lord, you hear my voice”
Seated in the Heavenly Realms
(Please read Ephesians 2:4-6)
Have you ever thought much about the “heavenly realms” mentioned in our text? It seems likely that most people, if they think about such things at all, think of a mysterious place far, far away in both distance and time. But Paul indicates that heavenly realms exist here and now for those who have been raised up with Christ.
We have already been “seated” in those heavenly realms, and becoming conscious of that fact is likely to change our lives for the better. Otherwise we will be like a tone-deaf person attending a grand concert –- oblivious to our wonderful surroundings in Christ.
But how can we attune ourselves to the blessings and privileges of those heavenly realms? By its very nature, that neighborhood is not populated by people who are serving another god — whether the Mammon of riches or some other master from Satan. On the contrary, our interest in material things is naturally reduced, for we have found something better and more lasting. And our important decisions, concerning both spiritual and material things, are based simply on what we believe God would have us do. Paul referred to this as fixing our eyes “not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NIV).
If you are a Christian but haven’t grasped the concept of heavenly realms, try again. Spend more time with the Bible, with other Christians, and with the Father in prayer and meditation. With his help, you can appreciate more and more where you are “seated” in Christ.
