A Call to Faith in Tough Times

In life, some people love riding a roller coaster and some people do not.  Just like a physical roller coaster other things in life can be up and down and be difficult to take.  If we have faith, we don’t have to fear the trials of life.

Jesus sends out the twelve

Matt. 10:1-42 –

  • vs. 9-10 – The workers are worthy of his support.  Depend on God he will provide what you need.
  • Verse 16-23 – Expect hardship.  Stick to what God expects from you even when you face trials.
  • Verse 26 – Don’t fear those who can only harm the body.   Remember God is with you.
  • Verse 37 – Love God with your whole being – don’t hold back

Overcoming Fear with Faith

  • Luke 8:22-25 – Where is your faith in times of trial?  This shows what you are going to depend on to support and save you.
  • Luke 8:40-56 – Vs. 49-50 – Believe and all will be made well.   To avoid a fear that will dictate and control our lives have faith in God.

Confessing Our Fear

The Apostle Paul

  • 1 Cor. 2:3 -Paul acknowledges his fear, 2 Cor. 7:5 -Paul had fears, Gal. 2:1-2 -Paul was in fear.  Sometimes we stuff down our fears and we don’t tell others about what we fear.  Fears can determine the directions we take in our lives.  When we can accept our fears we can see them in the right prospective and become stronger for the Lord.

Anger and Fear

Jewish Leaders

  • John 11:47-57 – These people were afraid that the Romans would take an interest in the unrest caused by Jesus
  • Luke 20:19-20 – The leaders were afraid of the people.  The Jewish leaders were afraid of either the people or the Romans would rise up and change things and they would lose power.

Overcoming Fear with Faith

  • Jude 20
  • Acts 2:42
  • The Word, prayer, fellowship, worship build us up
  • Acts 2:43-47 – exercise your faith to become stronger.

Living in Faith

  • Psalm 23:4
  • Psalm 27:1-4
  • Psalm 46:1-3
