John 1:1-9

For us as Christians, the story of Christmas is a story of God giving to his people.  God gave us light in the world by sending his son.

  • God’s Great Gifts:

Spiritual Light

Genesis 1:1-3

The emphasis on the day of creation was light.  The most important light in the world is the spiritual light of the world.

  • Light and:

God’s Presence

Psalm 4:6-8

Spiritual Light brings joy and peace and security.

Psalm 36:7-9

Light is sown like seed for the righteousness.

God’s Word

Psalm 119:105

God’s word is a light to our spiritual life.  He helps us see our way spiritually.

  • Prophecies

Isaiah 9:1-7, Isaiah 42:1-9, Isaiah 49:6-7,Isaiah 60:1-3,19-20

This was written in a time of conflict.  There was a lot of negative information Isaiah gave to Israel, but he also prophesied about the Savior, Jesus.  He gave a light of hope to the nation of Israel.

Micah 7:7-9

The prophet says to believe in God’s promises.

Light in Darkness

Matt. 4:12-17, Luke 2:25-32, Acts 13:46-47

Jesus says that the kingdom of heaven was upon the Jews.  The spiritual light was finally on the earth.

God’s Gift to the World

John 1:1-9

God created the Spiritual light for mankind.   This gift is for everyone.

Our Response:

John 3:19-21

We have a choice.  Some will reject because of their commitment to sin.

John 12:35-36a, 46

Believe while you have a chance.  The gift has been given.  Be determined to remove the darkness in your life.

2 Cor. 4:3-6

Spiritual Light shines from the darkness and is available to everyone no matter what circumstances we are in.

Eph. 5:6-14

Christians are lights to the world.  We can show others how to get out of darkness into the Spiritual light.

Rev. 22:5

The Spiritual light leads us to eternal life where God is the light forever.
