“Morning by morning, O Lord, you hear my voice”
(Please read Psalm 2)
Why are there so many civil wars in Africa? A few years ago a visiting preacher who had spent some time in African missionary work gave us his opinion.
He said most of the troubles there resulted from centuries-old enmity between tribes, and that putting enemy tribes together in a “nation” didn’t stop them from fighting. Then he added something profound and full of hope for emerging nations:
The gospel of Christ is the only hope those nations have of changing their pattern, forgetting old grudges, and improving their level of living.
The preacher said that among Christians in those new nations there had been marriages uniting couples whose tribes had once been in conflict with each other. Isn’t it exciting to think about what can happen in a country when Christianity grows and flourishes there!
Exciting, but not surprising if we really believe in Jesus and what he taught. We have the answer to the great problems that so perplex nations today. It’s Jesus!
Some Christians have experienced victories that ought to give them confidence to fight a thousand battles against Satan, expecting every time, with God’s help, to win. They didn’t convert all their neighbors or banish the Evil One entirely; but they did save families from the tragedy of divorce, restore some whose faith was faltering, and lead some to know the joys of “family” for the first time in their lives.
This solution is not yet accepted by the masses, but, more importantly, the Lord is with us. Let’s not be timid about letting the world around us know of the Cure for its ills.
