The Presence of God
The Holy Trinity Jesus’ Promise to be Present Matt. 28:20b – Jesus says I will be with you always John 14:2b – Jesus says I am going How do we reconcile these verses? The apostles were puzzled. John 14:16-23 – God sent a counselor and the Spirit of truth. Jesus was confident that the Holy Spirit would provide his presence with them. Do we recognize his presence with us today?
Another Counselor (Paraclete) John 14:16 – Jesus was their counselor and now their Holy Spirit will be their counselor Christ and Spirit Together 2 Cor. 3:17-18 – The Lord is the Spirit. Jesus and the Spirit are so much alike that you can’t tell one from the other Romans 8:9-11 – You are controlled by the Spirit of God who lives in you. But if you don’t have the Spirit of Christ you don’t belong to God. Romans 8:14-17; Gal. 4:6 – We call out Abba father. The Son’s spirit calls out Abba father. Eph. 3:14-17 – The Spirit causes Jesus to dwell in our hearts Wherever the Spirit is there is Jesus
Jesus Christ as Spirit 1 Cor.15:45 – Jesus became a life giving Spirit 1 Peter 3:18-19 – Jesus died in his physical body and raised as Spirit God is with us. We were not abandoned by God. God is real and in the world today.
Receiving God Within John 14:17, 20, 23 – God abides with us. Rev. 3:20 – Jesus will come in if we open the door for him. The Holy Spirit makes it possible for Jesus to be with us. –Robert Lee, 3-11-12, a.m. |
