We are called on to give to others.  Pure religion also involves keeping ourselves unstained by the world.  We have two ways presented to us concerning how to run our lives.

Worldly Wisdom

  • James 3:13-18

The wisdom of the world is based on our self centeredness.   The person who has this view has no endless source of good to pass on to others.  This person sees the world as limited and so they have to take wherever the can.  The wisdom of God is from his nature.  People who receive from God are outwardly focused – they are giving and sharing with others.  This is the Gospel Truth.

  • 2 Cor. 4:3-4

Satan is using this world to make people see things in a self centered way.  This type of thinking is Worldly Thinking.

  • Romans 12:2

The will of God is that we resist Worldly Thinking.

  • John 17:13-19

Jesus gave us God’s word to help us learn how to follow God’s truth.

We are stained by the word when we begin to think like the world.

Escaping the World

  • Acts 2:40

He is pleading with these people to be different than the world.

  • Galatians 1:3-5

We are rescued by Jesus’ sacrifice.

  • 2 Peter 1:4

We can escape through Jesus and the Spirit.

  • 2 Peter 2:20-22

We need to hold onto the way so the we continue to think like God.

  • 1 John 2:15

Don’t love the world.

John 3:16

God loved us enough to sacrifice his son.  He wants us to think like him.

Overcoming The World

  • 1 John 5:4-5

Our belief in Jesus makes us overcome worldly thinking.

  • James 4:4

We can’t have everything – God has not promised us worldly success or riches.  True joy comes from God and our relationship with him.

  • Galatians 6:14

Paul was willing t make choice between the world and God.  He knew he would have enough if he had God’s love in his heart.
