“Morning by morning, O Lord, you hear my voice”
Unwavering Christian Service
(Please read 1 Corinthians 15:54-58)
Imagine a business where the workers can come and go at will and may take weeks or months off without asking permission. Anyone would agree that that business would soon be out of business. With that in mind it’s easy to understand the frustration of church leaders when members become irregular in their service — not just in church attendance but in enthusiasm and dedication to the Lord’s work.
It’s true that there may be more claims on our time and loyalty than those our fathers faced, but inconsistency in service is not a new thing. Even in the time of Paul it was appropriate for Christians to be reminded of the need for steadfastness in the Lord’s service. So he encouraged the Corinthians to “be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”
Today is a good time to review our own approaches to serving the Lord, and make any necessary adjustments, starting now. And it’s a good time to sing an old song that says it well: “Be constant in God’s service here. Don’t let your light burn low.”
Would you like to pray now, to ask for God’s help in living up to the resolutions you have just made? May he bless you in your determination to be his constant servant.
