When it comes to God, there are only two directions. You are moving toward God or away from God.
Rev. 2:4. This Church was moving away
James 4:8. Draw near to God and He will move near to you. We must be dealing with the sin in our lives in order to move closer to God.
Three things that are necessary to move near to God:
1. Perception — right view of the light and the truth
Luke 11:33-36. We must be able to see — we must have the light of God to illuminate our actions and to show us the way. We must see ourselves as the light for others. We can lead others closer to God.
2 Cor. 4:3-4. The devil seeks to bring us into the darkness. He tries to blindfold people and keep people from God.
Acts 26:18. The work of the church is to show the world the light.
2. Passion — we must have a great compassion for the state that people are in when they are away from God.
Deut. 4:25-31. When we suffer as a result of sin we need to be swift and sure about getting nearer to God.
Psalm 63:1-11-Seek God earnestly.
Rom 12:10-11. We need passion for God.
1 Chron. 16:10-11.
Luke 18:1-8. We need to be consistent in asking God to help us to be closer to Him. Sometimes we have to work harder and be more persistent than we think we have strength for. We don’t want to give up too soon before we see the rewards.
2 Thess. 1:3-4. We will be blessed by being nearer to God.
